What is it about water?

There’s a kind of hush that falls over everything when you’re near water. Whether it’s the wide, open ocean or still pond, water has a way of pulling us into the present.

We believe that the sea is not just a place to visit, it’s a part of who we are. Through ocean education, citizen science projects, and immersive experiences that bring people into direct contact with the water, our mission is to foster curiosity, respect, and responsibility for our blue planet.

Black Water

1.

Project Partners

We work with established businesses, schools and experience providers to build ocean literacy and conduct citizen science. Our project partners show that everyone can contribute to conservation and anyone can become a scientist.

2.

Educational material and module delivery

Our educational material can be bought by individuals hoping to learn more about the ocean, or by individuals/groups looking to teach individuals about the environment. The difficulty of modules can be tailored to different ages and abilities.

3.

Blended learning programmes, group trips and ocean awareness events.

We run our own educational sessions and collaborate with blue experience providers to help individuals dive into marine science in a way that is tailored to them.

Managing Director

Rachel Lowne

I have always been passionate about the ocean and love learning more about marine systems. I have a BSc honors degree in marine biology and have completed over 300 SCUBA dives, working at expedition outposts in Borneo and West Papua. To me, the natural world is like a book written in another language, which science can help to translate, allowing us to understand things we see everyday.
